Social media doesn’t have to be owned by one company. The Fediverse is a collection of independently
run servers — each with its own community and rules — that talk to each other through open
standards. Think of it like email: you can have a Gmail address and I can have a Yahoo address, and
we can still write to each other. The Fediverse applies that same idea to posts, follows, and
timelines.
The catch is that joining has always required either technical know-how or luck — finding a server
with open registration, compatible rules, and an active community. Most people never make it past
that step.
UDP Social is built on the Fediverse. Every account lives on its own private node, maintained for
you, with the option to connect outward to the wider Fediverse when you want to. You get the
openness of the open web without having to become a server administrator to use it.
