Social media you actually own.
No algorithm. No ads.
What is UDP Social?
UDP Social is built on a simple premise — there is great, open-source social media software out there, and everyday people should have the option to use it, on their own terms.
We’ve built an open-source tech stack based on the Friendica social network software to enable you to run your own small – think extended-family size – social media network on the Fediverse backbone. We have also made some tweaks to the tech stack to better ensure safety and privacy. Sign up and you can have your own social media site at yoursocialmedia.udp.social, all starting at $20/month. No algorithms. No ads. No corporate landlord.

Commercial social media is engineered to hijack your attention. It makes intense demands of user attention, tuning “the algorithm” for ever more powerful hooks through emotional redirection and keeping people you want to follow at arm’s length. Because it’s free, you – specifically your attention and emotion – are the product. Because you’ve given your data to the company, you, your friends, and your loved ones are all viable targets for “the algorithm”. We offer to fix all that, at $20/node/month.
These nodes have been tested with 50-60 active users. Think “extended family” – grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, kids, and their friends: the whole crew. Your space. Your rules. No algorithm. No ads. No one selling your data.

As popularized by open source social media software such as Mastodon, Pixelfed, and Friendica, “the future is Federated”. What exactly does that mean?
Federation typically runs using the ActivityPub protocol, and allows Friendica nodes to communicate with other Friendica nodes, as well as with Mastodon, Pixelfed, and myriad other software services, securely and fully under your control.

Follow our DIY guide here. We mentioned that our subscription service is all open-source, and we mean it. This guide will take you through all the steps of standing up your own Friendica node, from domain selection (examplesocial.com) all the way to fully-Federated node.
There are of course costs associated. A rough estimate of $50/year (domain) and $12.50+/month (VPS node) is a good model to guesstimate.
