What is UDP Social?
We think modern social media has failed us – a regular family living in the Internet age. Not just our family, though. Yours too – and all people who want to share memories and moments without a company scraping your data and pushing unwanted influencers and advertisements on you, you family, and your friends. All. The. Time.
So, we built a new social media for ourselves. Not a new Facebook – just a small network that fits our own family and friends. Then, we automated creating it so you can start one of your own as well! And we brought enough to share with you and everyone else, too.

TRUSTWORTHY SOCIAL MEDIA
Commercial social media is engineered to hijack your attention. It makes intense demands of user attention, tuning “the algorithm” for ever more powerful hooks through emotional redirection and keeping people you want to follow at arm’s length. Because it’s free, you – specifically your attention and emotion – are the product. Because you’ve given your data to the company, you, your friends, and your loved ones are all viable targets for “the algorithm”. We offer to fix all that, at $10/family/month.
Each “node” – a small compute instance in the cloud – can easily to support an extended family-size network – grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, kids: the whole crew. Your space. Your rules. No algorithm. No ads. No one scraping your data or pushing influencers into your life.
THE FEDIVERSE EXPLAINED
As popularized by open source social media software such as Mastodon, Pixelfed, and Friendica, “the future is Federated”. What exactly does that mean?
Federation typically runs using the ActivityPub protocol, and allows Friendica nodes to communicate with other Friendica nodes, as well as with Mastodon, Pixelfed, and myriad other software services, securely and fully under your control.

Follow our DIY guide here. We mentioned that our subscription service is all open-source, and we mean it. This guide will take you through all the steps of standing up your own Friendica node, from domain selection (examplesocial.com) all the way to your own Federated server node.
Expect some associated costs. A rough estimate of $50/year (domain) and $12.50+/month (VPS node) is a good model to guesstimate.
